About
Passion for Cars Started Early
Jay Cassill’s love for engines started early. At just 8 years old, he was learning to turn wrenches in his dad’s garage. Since then, his passion for cars, trucks, motorcycles or anything with an engine, has only grown stronger. Growing up in the family car business gave Jay hands-on experience with a variety of makes and models, plus the unique problems with all vehicle types.
In the 1980s, while still in high school, Jay built his own wrecker and launched a towing business. He became so successful he eventually secured a contract with the Iowa State Patrol. His tow truck was even included in his senior pictures!

My Car Geek is Launched
Jay’s natural mechanical talent and deep experience led to a regular spot on WMT Radio’s call-in show “The Expert Hour”, where listeners turn to Jay for honest, straightforward car advice. He never liked being called an “expert”—he preferred the term “Car Geek.” So much so, he and host Jim Doyne joked about renaming the show from the beginning.
In May 2014, the “My Car Geek Hour” was born. Jay teams up every Saturday at 9 AM with host Doug Wagner on WMT AM 600 and nationwide on iHeart Radio. Call the studio on the Fountain Transmission line at (319) 365‑0600, or text questions to the Cedar Rapids Transmission line at (319) 983‑3498.
